Cadogan Contemporary is excited to announce a new solo exhibition of works by Berlin based artist Kim Bartelt.  In her first solo exhibition at Cadogan, Bartelt utilises Still Life painting as a framework for her investigations into the subject of home, house, and the search for stability during these unsettling times. Rather than paint, Bartelt uses paper in her compositions. Her pieces reflect on the nature of painting, replacing the gesture of the brushstroke with a meticulous process of layering and pasting.

The 'Stillleben' series moves the focus from the house itself to its centre, the table. These are an abstraction of a familiar concept taking inspiration from still life works by artists such as Morandi and Lichtenstein, but also developing on this. The table as the centre of communal gatherings reached a deeper significance over the past years and remains one of the strongest pillars of human interaction.

This exhibition will be Kim Bartelt's first solo show with Cadogan Contemporary following the success of the joint exhibition 'Invisible Subjects' held by the gallery in 2020. Bartelt has been represented by Cadogan since 2019.
