Kim Bartelt: Stillleben
Cadogan Contemporary are excited to announce a new solo exhibition of works by Berlin based German artist Kim Bartelt. Having trained in painting at the Parsons School of Design, Bartelt abandoned the medium in favour of using found paper in her compositions. Her pieces reflect on the nature of painting, replacing the gesture of the brushstroke with a meticulous process of layering and pasting. In this latest exhibition, Stillleben, Bartelt uses packing paper and cardboard boxes alongside tissue paper to explore the notion of home, taking inspiration from her experiences over the past two years. Her use of materials connects each artwork to its intentions, creating an extension of private life.
‘A Luftschloss is a fantasy, an unrealistic dream, literally translating to ‘air castle’. Most of these works were created during last year’s lockdown. As this was a time we all spent at home, I dreamt up some of my own ‘Luftschlösser’.’

This exhibition will be Kim Bartelt’s first solo show with Cadogan Contemporary following the success of the joint exhibition ‘Invisible Subjects’ held by the gallery in 2020.
