Betsy Eby

26th September - 13th October 2017

Contemporary artist Betsy Eby embraces big themes and her work is pervaded by spirituality and sublimity as are the paintings of Anselm Keifer and Cy Twombly, two artists she much admires.

A practising pianist Eby creates sublime images of nature that are as deeply influenced by classical music as by a sense of place, fusing the line between the musical and the visual composition.

Her work reveals that interconnected sensitivity: composing dynamic surfaces and deep luminous spaces. Her abstract paintings resonate with the experience of observing natural phenomena, such as the patterns created by a flock of birds taking flight, the substance of interplanetary nebula and the whorls of sea grass found in a tide pool.
